Doesn't matter what you got, but how you use it.
This' been my greatest gratification: I checked the counter one day (9th october, 2001) and I found the counter was reporting this (static screenshot):
Follows an update list of the last month:
10.10.05
If you are fluent in italian language, or better, if you are italian and you ended up into this english page by chance, scroll to the top of this page and change to the italian menu from the flag link and click on "Pagina iniziale", there is a new (!!!) entry in the history.
03.20.05
After exactly one year from the last entry, I'm here to annouce that this website has officially reached the end of its "life". By life I define the constant growth, change, development of something. The pages will continue to be available as long as they are hosted, and if, for any reason, the current free host will no longer support the site, I'll eventually move it on one of my registered domains, as is.
Still, no more updates will appear on this page, as my current life, interests, and available time, are differently destined (no, I'm not talking about any girlfriends).
Funny thing, I started working on this, full of enthusiasm, on a 17" CRT, with Dreanweaver 4; and now I'm here coldly writing its death notice on a 17" LCD, with Dreamweaver MX.03.15.04
What the heck am I doing in here in the middle of March? I know, I should be studying for the exams of the first year of the orthodontics specialization, BUT my professor decided that even if my skills are outstanding in every practice test, the mere unavailability of a 100mm macro objective in the photography test decided my impossibilit to be admitted to the current session, delaying me until the next session, two months later.
Oh, I need to renew my driving license, BUT since it expires on the 26th of this month, and my medical check is on 14th of April, I won't be able to drive for more than 2 weeks. "Hey, they must have a special permission of sorts to solve this problem" I thought, but NOOOOO they don't....
And now back to the real reason because of which I'm here. Big Brother folks. You probably know I'm Italian, and even if you don't know, I don't care. This is the point: here in Italy parliament approved the text of Urbani's act (I don't know how you call something that is not a law yet, and will be voted to become one, but this is the case). ISPs will be compelled to monitor all the connections of their users to check for illegal use. Well, now it's impossible to share movies, because the culprit will be punished with detention and a fee. It's impossible to download movies, because the culprit will be punished with a fee. And it's impossible to promote the sharing of such illegal files, because the culprit will be punished with a 2000 euro fee. Now, wether you know it or not, this website contains a guide about "...sharing files on IRC". According to this act, that page is illegal. That page will be removed as of today. The link in the menu has been removed, and for the ones reaching that page from a search engine, they'll see this text as explanation.01.29.04
At more than half a year of distance, the latest update, consisting in a picture of myself, in place of the old "webcam shot", which is not available anymore. See it by clicking on the blinking eye in the menu.
05.24.03
Updated, in the HowTo's/Compose Nokia Ringtones guide, the picture of my cellphone, with the new psychedelic cover (thanks Marco for your niiiice gift).
05.14.03
I felt like working a bit in here to better the navigation. I am actually getting a lot of visits, of I am FAAAAR from not being satisfied of it, so I decided that heck, even if I have no time, I could do something for you, dear Users.
You'll be twitching your eyes now asking yourself "Ok, so wtf did you do??" Shortly, I removed the "feature" which realoaded the whole framset each time you flipped a page; do not misunderstand me, it was clearly intented this way from the beginning, but it really slowed down the website a BIG deal, especially in the picture collections pages, where you are supposed to flip pages frequently. Thus I hope you'll enjoy this variation. The only drawback is that direct linking to a page is not possible anymore, since the self.location reference is not included in the top.location as a parameter. So you'll have either to check for the URL of the frame itself, or tell how to reach the page from the menus.05.04.03
Hey cool date today eh? 05.04.03, a Pitagoric group. Anyway, as of a reader's suggestion (you know who you are), I am removing the Escher artworks from the pictures collection; it seems it's a bad idea to keep such material online because of the copyright owners' temper
04.16.03
Cheer up boys there is nothing really "new" in the site now (as if someone cared). I just updated the link to the SpR Jukebox website in the IRC/File Sharing section to a working address.
On a side note, I have NO time AT ALL to be pestering with this site, at least at the moment.01.15.03
A lot of small changes have been going on in the background till now. But this one deserves to have a place in the history. I removed the page with the pictures of tiger mosquitoes. I was really annoyed by someone's comments, and it wasn't getting enough visitors anyway.
12.25.02
I shutted down the Cover images page, for reasons I'm not telling here, but explained in the page itself, in case someone still reaches it via a search engine.
12.22.02
More than a month since the last entry. I began to feel nostalgic. Really. I queued some updates to make, based on some mails I've been receiving by users asking stuff. But not now. Anyway, the big news are that I graduated (on October 31st), and also got the professional abilitation (license to kill). Last but not least, I finally installed ADSL.
On the website part, I updated the Autoidentify script for mIRC, it is now more reliable since in some cases it led to services flooding.11.12.02
Some time since the last update, but only recently the daily visitors reached the 300 again. Added a guide to make a plexiglas mod on a tower case in the HowTo's section.
10.19.02
Modified the index.htm file. I had big projects in mind, like a stunning flash animation, but considering what I have done, I saved both plenty of size and time. Changed also the title of this page, it was the only old thing which remained still there.
10.17.02
A new second host is supporting this website now, altervista.org. I just begun uploading files, it will be fully functional shortly.
I removed all of the status msg changes that occurred onMouseOver in the menu. I realized that, if I were to browse my own website, that would be irritating not to see the URL of the destination page. And, now the menu is some kb's smaller.10.10.02
Modified the menu gifs, now they look more coherent with each other, and also are slightly smaller. Changed the backgroung of the contents page and the menu. The border of the frames has been thinned considerably, now it steals 26pixels less in both directions. Removed here and there some useless links from the IRC section pages. Overall, the size of the website has decreased a bit, too.
10.09.02
Updated the Chrono Trigger flash animation. Who cares, you could say. Now every enemy has its own, realistic speed, and needs less or more hits by Crono to be killed, depending on its stamina. Also added a link to the index page of this website, to avoid lamers from stealing the result of my most hard work.
10.08.02
Thanks to my optimism, I decided to try and find a new way of managing the downloads. "Why the heck must I host the files myself - I asked myself - after all they are mostly files I could easily find on the web". This is what made me reorganize the download system. Only the smallest or hard to find files are materially hosted, all the others... well take a look for yourself in the downloads pages.
10.06.02
I was uploading the updates as in the last entry, when I discovered the XOOM.it FTP was giving me "Login incorrect". They deleted my account, website gone, 500 and more visitors per day gone, Google hits gone. Why? Maybe someone in the near future will know, because as of today, I am still wondering, and feel sure the mail I sent to the admin will remain un-answered.
WELL!! It's time of changes, isn't it. After the shock I decided (today) to start removing the HTML's of the most space-stealing stuff, which is Fun/Funny Videos and Fun/Funny Audio, oh and Downloads/Videoclips as well. In fact just a few users generated the most download bandwidth requirements. Yet I think it's not because of that XOOM deleted the account. But I don't know. Maybe they're just assholes. Anyway, I have NO intention of reuploading the whole stuff. Will try to find somewhere else to host the freeware utilities.
Also, I will remove most of the video codecs and players from Downloads/AudioVideo because they were functional only to the videos collection, and now they'd be stealing space.10.03.02
Completely disabled the no-frames version. It was thought as an alternative for low-resolution users, that is 800x600'ers and 640x480'ers. But after I restyled the menu, it isn't needed any more, and it really drank a lot of CPU to render. Now the pages load slightly faster, since the javascripts are significantly smaller.
Removed also the feedback form popup which followed the page during the scroll, because there were way too many users giving the worst votes to the site without writing what they didn't like and why. That's too easy guys, try making your own website, spending time and resources on it, and then tell me how you feel when someone tells you "it sucks, period".10.01.02
Section Download/Pictures: created a collection of screenshots taken from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, which I was planning since some time, and only got to complete today. Very interesting since you can find all the comments on the screens added by me.
09.29.02
Yuppiyayoooooooo!!!!!!!!!! I passed the LAST exam 4 days agooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 30 out of 30!!!!! So I could go back to the website, after reinstalling the whole Windows XP because... you know.. I did that thing I shouldn't have done but I tried to do it anyway.
So I wrote a guide about DivX subtitles synchronizing in the HowTo's section, and I just finished updating the Flash animation, with a very nice "Loading" screen.
Finally adjusted the counter, now it reports the "most correct" number of visitors, and anyway if it is wrong, it's because it's lower than the actual number of visitors, and not higher.
